Top 5 Excuses for Not Having a Mobile Website
If you think your business doesn’t need a mobile website, think again.
Here are the top five excuses for not having a mobile website – and why they’re no good
Research shows that by 2013, more people will be using mobile phones than computers to get online. Already 66 per cent of smartphone owners use their phones to access the internet daily, with 80 per cent abandoning a site if they have a bad mobile experience.
In case you’re not convinced yet, here we debunk the top five excuses for not having a mobile website.
1. My desktop-friendly website is good enough
Unfortunately, it probably isn’t. Mobile-friendly sites are designed to load faster, display information on a small screen and render images correctly. You need to offer a superior mobile experience for your customers or risk losing their business.
2. No one is really searching on mobile
Statistics actually show that 62 per cent of smartphone owners use their device to search online every day. A whopping 94 per cent use their phones to search for local information, with 90 per cent taking action as a result of these searches. These figures will only increase over time as the number of smartphone users approaches one billion by 2014.
3. There’s no need to invest in mobile yet
Your mobile-friendly competitors will love this reasoning. By putting off having your own mobile site, you’re giving the competition a clear advantage while you miss out on the opportunity to reach your customers in this ever-growing channel.
4. I’m not a local business
Even if you’re not a local business, having a mobile site is an extra sales channel that increases your exposure. 96 per cent of smartphone owners use their phones to research purchases, and 60 per cent make purchases directly from their phones at least once a month. If you don’t have a mobile site, you’re very likely losing out on extra business.
5. It’s too hard
It really isn’t. Creating a mobile website is more about tweaking your existing website than creating a whole new one from the ground up.
Mobile friendly websites provide the basis for effective conversion for search engine optimization, mobile advertising, and inbound links from social media sites/apps. The best mobile websites also provided a different experience from desktop web, because they cater to the users context - location, internet connection, and the fact that they are mobile and likely browsing to take imidiate action.
